Nice to meet you!

My name is Mona Afshar, I'm a grade 11 Student in the MaCS (Math and Computer Science) program at William Lyon Mackenzie C.I. Despite the fact that both of my parents grew up in Iran, I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. Following the footsteps of my father and my older sister, I have a passion for computer programming and hope to pursue it in the future. As a competitive swimmer and former gymnast, I have always regarded sports to be a necessity in my life. Competitve Swimming

I have been swimming competitively with North York Aquatic Club since 2015. I began training at the age of 11, a year later than the majority of my teammates. This inspired me to work even harder and stay motivated in order to catch up to them. I would swim three hours a week when I first started, but as I became better, I increased to seven, ten, and eventually sixteen hours a week. Swimming is a sport that demands a great deal of dedication and perseverance due to the long hours spent training or as we call it "staring at the black line".

I've been working on a variety of projects at school and in my spare time over the last few years. I learnt to write in Java and Processing in my high school computer science class, which taught me the principles of programming. In my spare time, I've been learning website development and have used HTML, CSS and javascript to make this and other websites.
